Since Bitcoin emerged in 2008 as the first cryptocurrency, the cryptocurrency market has grown significantly. In our country, cryptocurrency mining is known as an industry, and the license for this activity is issued by the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade. Bitcoin has a significant share of the cryptocurrency market and is considered as the leader of this market. Although large financial transactions using this cryptocurrency are carried out quickly and easily without the need for reliable government institutions such as banks, mining of this cryptocurrency done by miner devices, requires high energy consumption. With the global acceptance of cryptocurrencies, their prices and tendency to mine them have increased. Environmental pollution and the disruption of the balance between electricity production and consumption are the main challenges regarding the mining of cryptocurrencies worldwide. In our country, to control and monitor the energy consumption of miner devices, the national standard 22800 has been compiled and announced in cooperation with the National Standards Organization and the Ministry of Energy to determine the energy label of these devices. In this regard, the Miner Device Energy Label Laboratory was established at Niroo Research Institute in 2022 with the following goals:
- Issuing energy labels according to the standard and increasing the efficiency of miner devices used in the country
- Reducing energy consumption and protecting the country's energy resources
- Preventing depreciated miner devices from entering the country
- Participation in upgrading the 22800 standard in new versions
- Providing reliable information for analysis and decision-making for power industry managers
- Assisting in policy-making, passing the required laws, and optimizing decision making regarding cryptocurrencies
