Overview

While composite insulators offer several advantages over ceramic bases, their usage also presents certain drawbacks, including the susceptibility of shell materials to cracking and erosion, changes in the insulating coating surface, water absorption, and reduced electrical performance due to electrical damage in polluted environments. These shortcomings can be solved by modifying materials and design aspects during the production phase. Aging tests play a crucial role in evaluating the efficacy of polymer materials and their estimated lifespan. A number of different tests were conducted which two methods are available in the salt fog laboratory, and the laboratory uses these methods to evaluate test samples.

Mission

The history of all performed tests

During its 20 years of activity (opening at the beginning of 2003), the salt fog laboratory has conducted more than 200 different tests, including salt fog tests, UV tests, and research tests. The insulators that tested in this laboratory are mainly products of domestic companies and sometimes foreign products. In this regard, the laboratory has succeeded in cooperating with companies such as Taban Niro, Durood Kelid Barq, Simcatek, Mane Parto, Ayegh Gostar, Baspar Saze Alvand, Arman Insulators, Nab Silicon, Barkgir Pars, Niro Tehzih Parse, Safdar Sasani, Dalman, Ara Niro Sepahan, samanehaye Novin Afra, etc. providing testing services. In addition, the main activity of the laboratory as a reference laboratory is providing services to the product evaluation council of Tavanir Company.

Scope of activity

By providing facilities related to Aging tests of polymer insulators as well as UV erosion tests, this laboratory provides the possibility of performing and implementing different test scenarios on the insulation equipment, which these methods, either standard or non-standard (researching method), can be used in the above laboratory. Some of the standards covered in this laboratory are as follows:

  • Porcelain cap and pin & pin type insulator according to IEC 60507, year 2013
  • Composite insulators according to IEC 61109-2008
  • Composite line post insulators according to IEC 61952-2008
  • Polymeric arresters according to IEC 60099-4 -2014
  • Polymer cable according to IEC 60502-4 of 2010
  • Cut-out fuse Polymeric insulators according to IEC 62217-2012
  • Polymeric bushing according to the IEC62271-103 -2011
